Weekly Update 5/18/18
Dear eDCSD Families,
We are heading into the last week of school! It is hard to believe an entire year has gone by! Thank you to all of our families for choosing eDCSD and giving us the opportunity to help your kids grow and learn. We have had such a fun year and are excited to see what next year has in store for us. Please join us on Wednesday from 9-10:30 am for our Student Recognition Ceremony and Open House. Invitations for those receiving an award will be sent to you but all parents and students are welcome to attend. Please read the announcements below.
New Opportunities (All Staff)
We want to wish Mr. Luke Schnickel our best as he will not be returning to eDCSD in the fall to pursue an opportunity in New Mexico. Luke is an amazing educator and friend that we will miss very much.
Also, many of you know that I (Kristy Hart) accepted a position in another district to start a new school. While this comes with mixed emotions because I love my eDCSD family and community, starting a new school is a once in a career opportunity. The process to find a new principal is underway. If you have any questions or would like to provide input, please don’t hesitate to reach out. It is our priority, with the support of our district leadership team, to find a leader who will continue to make eDCSD a great place for students!
End of the Quarter Notice (All Students)
eDCSD is on a quarterly grading period system. The end of the grading period is Friday, May 25th, for the fourth quarter. All regular work is due by SUNDAY, May 20 AT MIDNIGHT and the next week is final exams.
At the high school level, a passing grade (D or above) at the end of the quarter is equal to .25 credits added to their transcript. Quarter 3 and quarter 4 grades are not averaged. They are individual terms and are posted separately. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Fundraising for Ellie
Shout out to all of our kiddos and staff who participated in the Pizza for Ellie fundraiser.
The grand total raised so far is $360.00! We are almost there! Wednesday, May 23rd, we will have donuts, pastries, and Yeti Gear table during our student awards event with all those proceeds going to Ellie. Thank you again for loving on Ellie with your contributions. She sure loves being at blended each week!
Mental Health Support
If you need help with mental health, substance abuse or an emotional crisis, please call Colorado Crisis Services at 1-844-493-8255. They have live support 24/7/365.
Just a reminder, if you have borrowed an eDCSD computer this school year, laptops needs to be returned to the office no later than June 4. Computers cannot be checked out over the summer for use during summer school so we can prepare our inventory for next year. Just a reminder that your deposit will be refunded once the computer is returned in good condition. The refund comes through the district and typically takes 60-90 days. Please call our office with any questions.

Summer School at eDCSD (All Students)
eDCSD is now accepting registration for our Intensive Summer School Program. Please see the flyer or visit our website for registration information and available courses and to register. Students attending any DCSD High School can register for classes. eDCSD offers full courses for grade replacement* and credit. The deadline for summer school registration for session 1 is May 25th. Please contact your counselor with questions regarding courses or Julie Naab with questions regarding enrollment.
Session 1: June 4-22, Semester 1 courses
Session 2: July 9-27, Semester 2 courses
* Approval for grade replacement must be secured prior to enrollment in summer school courses from the principal of the school the student attends full time.
Change in Extension Policy (All Students)
Due to our change to Canvas, we will lose access to Plato immediately following final exams this quarter. Because of this, there will be no extensions offered for quarter 4. Please plan ahead so you complete your courses on time with the grade you want.
Art Contest Winners (All Students)
Thanks to all students who participated in this year's Art show! The judging was difficult, with so many outstanding entries. The selected student work will be on display for all to see at the eDCSD Main Office 312 Cantril St. Castle Rock, CO.
Amber Jibson Grade 10 - “Water fall”
Brianna Pilcher Grade 8 - “Dragon”

Important System Update (All Students)
As you are aware, we will be moving away from Moodle and Plato next year. Starting in summer school, we will be using Canvas for our new learning management system (LMS) and partnering with several content vendors to ensure we can deliver the quality education our students need with the ability to still create a personalized experience. Here is a demo of what it will look like for students and here is a link to other Canvas videos. If you have any questions about this change, please reach out to Kristy Hart (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Intent To Re-Enroll
If you are full time with eDCSD, please take a minute to complete this quick survey to let us know where you are planning to send your student to school for the 18/19 school year. Please note that if you are planning to have your child attend another school and we do not make advance arrangements, enrollment at another DCSD may not be possible due to limited space. The sooner you let us know, the better. Thanks!
LOST AND FOUND (All Students…. And staff!)
Missing anything? We have many items in our bin. Please stop by the front office to check the lost and found bin for missing items before May 23. All items remaining will be donated if they are not claimed by May 25.
