Weekly Update 4/27/18

Dear eDCSD Families,

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful spring weather that is upon us.  This weekend, enjoy some of the gorgeous sunshine and think of the summer days that are just around the corner.  Please read the announcements below full of plans for the final weeks of school.

Announcements
College Visit to Metro State and CCD THIS WEEK
Want to visit Metro State University and the Community College of Denver?  Here is your chance! Join us for a tour and admissions info session. Transportation available.  Fill out this form to sign up.

Progress Grades
Progress grades will be available to view in Infinite campus.  Please check your student’s grades for a snapshot of their progress at the halfway point of the quarter.  As a reminder, due to our change to Canvas, we will lose access to Plato immediately following final exams this quarter.  Because of this, there will be no extensions offered for quarter 4. Please plan ahead so you complete your courses on time with the grade you want.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Field Trip is coming!
On Thursday, May 10, eDCSD will host a field trip to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.  Here is more information about this much-anticipated field trip.  To sign up, complete this form.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Nehring.

GSA Club (All Students)
We are starting a GSA and are hoping to welcome you to our club. You do not have to be GLBTQ+, but you do need to be an ally. If you are interested in joining or just finding out more information please contact Mr. Phillips. We are hoping this will become a safe space where students can express their minds openly in an accepting environment.

Fundraising for Ellie
Shout out to all of our kiddos and staff who participated in the Pizza for Ellie fundraiser.
The grand total raised so far is $197.00! Don't forget we have 2 more chances to raise money for Ellie. On Wednesday, May 9th we will have Yeti Gear and Pizza by the slice with beverages for purchase so remember to bring your cash or checks. Finally, Wednesday, May 23rd, we will have donuts, pastries and Yeti Gear table for students and families with all those proceeds going to Ellie. Thank you again for loving on Ellie with your contributions.  She sure loves being at blended each week!

May 2: Career day is approaching!  From 12-1, we will spend some time preparing for career day so you can get the most out of the event.
May 2: Our students have some serious talents.  Join us for a student showcase of activities and events.  Maybe you will learn something new or connect with someone who has a similar interest.  If you have something you want to share, please contact Mrs. O’Dell.  
May 9: Career Day!  Students will have an opportunity to meet with leaders in multiple career fields that are of interest to them.  Got a career field you want to see at this event? Contact Mrs. Sanders to get it on the list. Parents, if you or someone you know would like to participate as a career presenter, please contact us.  Join us for this anticipated event!
May 10: Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Field Trip.  Here is more information about this much-anticipated field trip.  To sign up, complete this form.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Nehring.
May 16: Graduation Rehearsal and Senior Party... no special event.  Blended will be held from 9-11:15 for a help session.
May 23:  Join us for the student recognition ceremony from 9-10:30.  Invitations for those receiving an award will be sent to you soon but all parents and students are welcome to attend

Summer School at eDCSD (All Students)
eDCSD is now accepting registration for our Intensive Summer School Program.  Please see the flyer or visit our website for registration information and available courses and to register.  Students attending any DCSD High School can register for classes.  eDCSD offers full courses for grade replacement* and credit.  The deadline for summer school registration for session 1 is May 25th.  Please contact your counselor with questions regarding courses or Julie Naab with questions regarding enrollment.
Session 1: June 4-22, Semester 1 courses
Session 2: July 9-27, Semester 2 courses
* Approval for grade replacement must be secured prior to enrollment in summer school courses from the principal of the school the student attends full time.

Summer Volunteer Opportunity (All Students)
Extended School Year (ESY) is a program that provides summer educational opportunities for special education students.  Students, grades 7-12, who would be interested in volunteering for DCSD’s summer Extended School Year (ESY), please complete this 2018 ESY Student Volunteer Interest Inventory. ESY will be held in all regions at the following buildings:  
  • Parker Region:  Pine Lane Elementary, Legacy Point Elementary
  • Castle Rock Region:  Castle Rock Elementary, Clear Sky Elementary, Mesa Middle School
  • Highlands Ranch Region:  Arrowwood Elementary, Stone Mountain Elementary, Mountain Ridge Middle School, Highlands Ranch Bridge Program
Dates and Times are:
June 12-15:  8:45-12:15
June 18-21:  8:45-12:15
July 9-12:  8:45-12:15
July 16-19:  8:45-12:15
*Students may sign up for 1 week, all 4 weeks, or individual days and must provide their own transportation.  To volunteer, a signed permission slip/waiver form is required. Students can obtain Community Service hours by bringing the correct forms and asking the administrator on site to sign/date.  If you have any questions, email linda.niemann@dcsdk12.org.
